"An air of comfortability" is created by a true family atmosphere…our family has created that air for 72 years.
With a 7th grade education, Roscoe Brown opened his doors for business as a Tin Shop in 1940. Roscoe borrowed $100 to start his business of fixing roofs, fabricating gutters and making water tanks for local farmers. Roscoe may not have had much of a formal education, but he was plenty smart and was able to pay back the loan in his second year of business. During the 30's and 40's people were enjoying the novelty of air conditioning in movie theaters and department stores but it wasn't until the 1950's that window air conditioning units became available to homeowners, although air conditioning was still considered a luxury for most people.
In 1955, Roscoe's son, Gary, then 13, started working with his Dad fulltime during school breaks and summers. Gary, like many sons of the fifties, learned family values from the role model, hard-working father. Roscoe and Gary recognized air conditioning was soon to be a mainstay in American households and focused the business in that direction.
This took Roscoe Brown Heating and Cooling to a new level. They were now able to bid on larger jobs where they furnished the complete package of air conditioning and heating equipment, ductwork, and installation as well as team up with mechanical contractors to bid on fabrication and installation of duct work, vents, exhaust fans, grates, grills and more, for schools, churches, nursing homes and apartment complexes. People throughout the region recognized the company for its vision, its commitment to excellence, and its family-based work ethic.
The Father-Son company became multi-generational when Gary's son, Norman, started working in the family business during his summers and schools breaks at 16. Every summer, Norman learned a new area of the business. His first summer focused on duct work, his second summer focused on electrical work and his third summer was spent working in service and installation.
Like his Father and his Father's Father, Norman recognizes potential areas of growth. If there is new HVAC technology that will bring greater efficiency, Roscoe Brown Heating and Cooling will be a front-runner in the availability and knowledge needed to bring this technology to residents and businesses in the area. Geothermal is an excellent example of very specialized technology that Roscoe Brown Heating and Cooling embraced and introduced to homeowners and businesses in Middle Tennessee 5 years ago. By advertising its advantages, dedicating an informational website solely to Geothermal, plus making certain Technicians are state-of-the-art trained for Geothermal, Roscoe Brown Heating and Cooling is now considered a product knowledge expert on Geothermal in Middle Tennessee.
Weatherization is also known as weatherproofing. By protecting the exterior and interior of your home from heat, cold, precipitation and wind, you can reduce your energy consumption and save money. The Department of Energy estimates that for every $1 invested in weatherization, you can save up to $2.72 in benefits. You can find more information about weatherization at: www.roscoeenergyaudits.com.
As Roscoe Brown Heating and Cooling continues its growth through excellence, Roscoe's original philosophy, "The Customer Has to Be Satisfied" has been passed on to each generation. Roscoe knew that the most important part of their business was making certain that each customer was a happy and satisfied customer. Gary and Norman embrace this philosophy by being personally accessible to customers who have concerns or issues. An additional, yet equally important, part of customer satisfaction is making certain their technicians have been trained to provide best in class technical and customer service. All technicians carry laptops to streamline service call details and if customers choose, bills may be paid online.
